Blackout The System Movement Calls for National Action to End Exploitation and Demand Justice
Nationwide Economic and Labor Blackout Scheduled for September 16th–20th, 2025
Dallas, TX – August 20, 2025 –
The Blackout The System Movement has announced its First Wave of national action, a five-day economic and labor blackout beginning September 16th and running through September 20th, 2025. This historic effort will unite millions of people across the country to send one powerful mesage: "We are not asking, we're shutting it down".
From September 16th–20th, participants will withhold their money, labor, and participation in the systems that exploit them.
The blackout includes:
• No working (with unique participation guidelines for healthcare workers and first responders)
• No spending at major corporations (supporting local shops, farmers markets, and small businesses instead)
• No traveling
• No events or entertainment spending
• No backing out
In addition, the movement calls for individuals to withdraw funds from major banks and transition their finances into local credit unions to weaken corporate control and strengthen community-based financial institutions.
The blackout includes:

In addition, the movement calls for individuals to withdraw funds from major banks and transition their finances into local credit unions to weaken corporate control and strengthen community-based financial institutions.
Why This Matters
America is facing a breaking point:
• 63% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, leaving them vulnerable to financial crises.
• 57% of Americans cannot cover a $1,000 emergency expense without going into debt.
• Veteran benefits, senior benefits, housing, healthcare, and education programs are under attack, leaving the nation’s most vulnerable populations without protection.
• Income inequality is at historic highs: the top 1% of Americans control more wealth than the entire middle class combined.
“The greed of this nation—from corporations to politicians—has magnified exploitation and fueled hatred against the people,” said Isaiah Rucker Jr., Founder of the Blackout The System Movement. “We are standing united to reclaim our dignity, our money, and our power.
Unity is community, and community is power. That power is with the people.”
The blackout also calls attention to systemic oppression that has historically exploited Black, Brown, working-class, and marginalized communities, and now increasingly threatens the rights and survival of everyday Americans. Exploitation by the financial institutions that exploit workers and communities for profit are on record. We demand justice for those that have endured systemic racism, economic inequality, and neglect.
